Species Maintenance Report

Species Maintenance Committee Notice

I have heard from a few people that they have received the A.K.A.
Species Maintenance Report. I was made aware of the mailing beginning last
week, but now I can mention it now that its out. I have also sent the same
report to Barry at the AKA Website and he will be putting it online
shortly. That is the one I will be updating over the next year.

The SPECIES EASTER COUNT CENSUS is still ongoing. To date I have
received about 80 responses in one form or another. I would like to thank
those who have participated so far and am waiting for the rest of you to
get your lists into me. 80 lists is about 10% of the A.K.A. membership. I
find this to be very disappointing and certainly does not help us in
determining the status of the fish in the hobby. There are still 12 days
lift in the month before the census is over.

The affiliate groups that have participated so far: L.I.K.A. ,
G.C.K.A., Colorado & Suncoast. Where are the rest of you?

I don't know how to get people to undertake this
responsibility. While keeping killies is a hobby and we are privileged to
have some of the finest breeders and greatest people to share the hobby
with, we also need to accept a little responsibility if we want to see
these fish remain in the hobby.

I think one of the things that bothers me most is this: Some of the
biggest collectors and breeders in the hobby are among those who have not
responded. I hope everyone seriously considers the importance of
supporting this American Killifish Assc. committee and send their lists to me.

     Thanks alot folks ...

Tom Grady - chairman, Species Maintenance Committee.
