Re: KillieTalk Digest V3 #1068
Hi All,
There is no topic more appropriate to killie keeping than
witchcraft. Those AKA member who were at the 1976 convention or who read
my report on the convention in the defunct "Aquarium News" may remember Jim
Thomerson when asked how long to incubate SA annual eggs replied something
to the effect that killie keepers use witchcraft to successfully raise
annual fishes. It has stuck for many years, and if you ever saw what a 6
inch thick slab of a dried out annual hole felt and looked like you would
realize that we are so far away from the "real" thing . I had a slab sent
to me and published pictures of it many years ago.
It was so dry and hard you could drive nails with
it. Roots, twigs, leaves grasses and mulch dried as solid as a brick. It
is only the wonderful adaptation of these fishes that allows us the
latitude to use peat as "damp as pipe tobacco" to stored eggs.
What a wonderful craft so many witches practice
..........
