RE: Shipping fishes

Hi Karl,

Everyone knows what part of Germany Rachovii come from, the DKG Forest of
course! And the KNP Blacks obviously come from the KNP Black Forest!

Now on to your other point. Are you actually telling all of us that you
would keep a Notho in a bag without light, air and especially food for a
month? No doubt that it survived due to the incredable determination that
develops when plotting revenge. In this case I would have to contradict your
point. This fish survived despite the homosapien factor.

OK...I WAS JUST KIDDING.....NO OFFENSE INTENDED!

In my lifetime, I have come to believe that just about anything is possible.
But I have transplanted my fair share of Nothos. Some have taken it better
than others. About two years ago I had an unexpected hospital stay which
lasted a bit over a week, and despite my wife's claim that she fed them,
when I returned home over 25% (mostly females) had already stopped eating.
They faded away over the next two to three weeks. I still believe that long
shipping times for these fish are counter-recommended, especially since the
eggs are so much easier and cheaper to ship and there is no concern about
the time it takes.

Another one of my theories holds that Nothos usually do well in the water
they are hatched and reared in.(assuming of course it is within their range
of tolerance) This way there is no stress inflicted by changes in water
conditions and foods. I have a friend some distance away with vastly
different water chemistry. We both do fairly well with Nothos. We have
exchanged Nothos from time to time. When he gets mine they usually do fine.
But I have not yet succeeded at getting one of his to successfully adapt to
my tanks. Despite the fact that I usually get them hand delivered and they
are usually in exelent shape when I get them. Most either will not eat or
just sicken and die. I don't know if it is a difference in foods, water
conditions, temperature or just lattatude. I realize that my evidence is
anicdotal but I have also seen it with other people too.

Despite our differing opinions regarding the likelyhood of the fish's
survival, I am not sure that we disagree that it would be better to just
ship eggs.

Best regards,

-RJ-

RJ What part of Germany did they collect the rachovi. You have some
interesting theorys on Nothobranchius .I've had notho in a bag over a month
lived & reproduced .The only thing that keeps the fish from reproducing is
the homosapien factor----- Original Message -----
