Chad-Cameroon Pipeline Project
Hi folks,
Yes, this is my weekly advertisement for Killie Nutz website ... but I feel
the primary subject of the update is very important reading for all Killie
hobbyists.
* I have reprinted an article (with permission of course) from this
month's issue of the BKA's Killi-News that discusses a proposed (an shortly
to be implemented) project for an oil pipeline from Chad through Cameroon
to the Atlantic coast and the effects likely on many species and
populations of Killifish.
Mark Wessel researched and wrote the article and plotted out the
proposed route and what areas would be affected. His research found 14
species of Killies are likely to be seriously affected and several
populations of A. exiguum, elberti and others are included in the
list. He also noted several other species which could be affected, but
did not place them on the list of known collection sites the route will
pass through.
<on soapbox> Without getting on my Species Maintenance soapbox to long
- this is just another reason why people need to take the time and
responsibility to send me a list of the fish they maintain in their
fishrooms or participate in the Easter Killie Count <off soapbox>.
The article is on Killie Nutz http://www.travelnutz.com/killienutz.htm
* In the past week, I have added several more Bob Morenski photos of
Nothos - furzeri (red form), orthonotus and kafuensis.
* Work continues with a change in the way the Encyclopedia of Killifish &
Aquarium Lore operates. I have added discussion forums to each of the
major subject areas as well as updated the search engine slightly.
PROJECTS FOR THIS WEEK:
I am looking to design an "Ecologic Effects" section on the
website. This section will be designed with an eye on issues affecting our
favorite fish - articles as they become available about possible ecological
disasters and a forum to discussion the issues (and of course solve all the
world's problems).
I will also be updating and upgrading several other areas of the
website (hopefully).
Tom
