Re:Who Won?

RJ,
I know exactly the Delta winged nasty little buggers you're talking
about.Tried the
entire program just as you did as well.My solution was to ignor the
culture, let it dry up.My medium is mostly peat with a little potting
soil.I let it go dry for the most part
and stop feeding(I use Gerber Baby Oatmeal, dry flakes). The midges and
larvie die off.The adult white worms vanish as well but the tiny young
whites will remain-in numbers too.You can restart the culture,or keep it
at this minimal moisture level.No
need for Grindals.Just give them a light dusting of the baby oatmeal
flakes and a few
spritzes with a spray bottle of RO water.I keep 2 cultures of these mini
whites this way in a margerine tub and a small wood cigar box.Great food
for fry.
Now who can tell me how to get rid of a springtail invaded
culture? So far the worms are holding thier own but something tells me
it's only a matter of time. It's a shoebox sized culture and has been
very prolific.Would it be best to harvest adults and just start a new
culture?
