Re: formalin, hydra, plants

I did a cross study using formalin and copper and three other "Hydra Killers" a year or so ago. The formalin won by a large margin. Easy on plants and quick to do the job and eliminates dormant ones also. Problem is formalin also kills off other invertebrates as well and if the tank is heavenly infested the die off will pollute the tank.

My procedure is to change the water first,
2. then treat with 3 drops of 35% per gallon of water and
3. then after three days change the water again.

The only plant I have had problems with is the Madagascar Lace plant. I had one in bloom at the same time I treated a tank of angels. It never was the same after that but I had several offspring so it didn't matter that much.
