Re: sponge for filters
What I've been using for 'sponge?' filters is just a short chunk of 1/2 or
3/8 hard plastic as a main upright tubing with a normal diffuser or just an
airline supplying bubbles, and a Bio-Bag sleeve. The ends of the big tube
are cut at something around 60 degrees. A bit of gravel in the bottom
for weight,,, or charcoal, and a plastic wire tie and presto,,, a cheap
corner filter that fry don't seem to get into. Easy to rinse,,, I don't
remember what a box of 12 of the filter sleeves costs,,, but it's a no
hassle sort of fix. I've made them out of flat filter material,,, but I'm
always worried the fry can get inside thru my sewing job using fish
line. And I have several of the biobag sort of filters here and there
anyway,,, If you're using the sponge for the micro-fauna,,, I've no idea
how the bag compares in plankton production.
