Jay, don't put the meter away 'left turned on'.  I did that once.  When I
found it dead, I decided that my tanks couldn't be that different because I
use the same water to fill them.  So, I went ahead and moved some fish.
After I moved them and lost 80% of them, I went out and bought new batteries
for the Hanna meter.  By the way, the batteries cost as much as a new meter.
My tap reads about the same as yours and I have the same range of readings
as you.  My low readings are caused by the rain water that I also use.
