focusing

I really agree with this statement. My first compulsion was to keep as many
different kinds of killies as possible and just sell the eggs. I would
submit that this is a common error amongst newbies. I will say this. I
have found that raising fry requires much more tank space than breeding the
parents. For quite a while I was not concerned about keeping and breeding
the progeny, just breeding the parents. I have since dedicated tank space
for fry and have worked up a drawer system, that kind of hardware plastic
drawer system you keep screws in, to incubate the eggs and raise the fry to
sorting size ( I learned this technique from Bill Sheilds). I will however,
go through a few more fish, until I have the fish I truly love and then I
will stop going through them. I feel I am very close to that point.
However, I do try to decide quickly, with fish I buy, or am given, so that
if they are not exactly what I am looking for, then I can pass them to one
of the more mature people in the club that want them and will keep and raise
them. I bought most of my fish, so I don't feel very bad for passing them
on.
Just a few thoughts from a "Newbie"!!! I hope that some other novices can
learn something from this post. Mostly from the slow down and think
part...lol.
