Re: Tank Covers

Hi,
I too have used salvaged glass for tank covers for many years and they work great. Most of my tanks are 31/2 gal with some 5`s and a couple of 10`s so removing the cover to feed is no big deal. When I built my tank racks I covered the frames with inexpensive paneling and used that to make sliding door storage areas underneath. Then with shop lights overhead, I used some of the paneling scraps to lay on the class covers to regulate the amount of light that I want for each tank. This is one of the advantages to glass covers, others are a good tight cover takes care of the jumpers, stops condensation lost, are easy to keep clean. On larger tanks a two piece cover with the small piece butted against the larger makes feeding a breeze.

I am sitting here feeling pretty good about myself. I have succeeded in
breeding a few killies thanks in large part to the advice from this list!
However after counting my hatching fry I am beginning to see a future
problem. I am going to need allot of tank covers. Before reinventing the
wheel I thought I would ask you folks for your input. Mostly I am going to
be using 20's and 10's for the killies. I have allot of egg crate on hand
but I have learned killies go right through this! I also have some porch
screen and was thinking of using this material. Any help you folks can offer
is very much appreciated.
