Re: Collection codes,Common names,TLA's

I think the cichlid/killie contrast extends far beyond killies. In Jay's
message, he talked about livebearer, cichlid and betta breeders being
intimidated by killies. I've noticed from listening to years of
Breeder's Award presentations in our local clubs that people breed fish
which practice broodcare, or like livebearers (I know, a
generalization), breed themselves. There are local guys who have spawned
a hundred cichlids, and nothing else. To set up and maintain breeding
set-ups for killies, pencil fish or other characins, rasbora etc is seen
as way too much trouble, or as too difficult.
I think the difficulty is a psychological barrier - a tank full of young
pencil fish or killies is a great thing not too hard to have - but it's
seen as the domain of the overly meticulous "super nerds" who use
flashlights to look at their fish.
Gotta go get batteries.
