For those who have cats older than six months, oil of orange (or liquified 
orange peel) is an excellent cat repellent.  Kittens tend to be more 
sensitive to it, so I don't recommend it for them.

My 25 lb Maine Coon sometimes watches the fish, but he's been in a house with 
aquariums for 14 years, so he's blase.  My younger cat loves to watch "Kitty 
TV" and will sit in front of the living room display tank watching the fish 
watch her.
