HTML makes for much prettier messages. It adds little or nothing to the
information content, unfortunately. It's a cost-benefit balance problem.

Those of us who have always-on nodes on the net, and can't tolerate the
self-executing nature of HTML, would probably have no choice but to leave
the list. It is still a major security problem, just like Outlook Express.
Worms, viruses, and other such mischief can be propagated to a *lot* of
computers if the list enables HTML. I do hope that is given appropriate
weight in the decision-making process.

The bandwidth required for MIME and HTML is somewhat greater than for plain
text ASCII, anyway. While I enjoy using them on my machine, the impact on a
list is huge, and can affect hundreds of computers and tens of thousands of
postings. Many mail readers still don't handle them well, while many get
jammed by the (apparently deliberate) non-standard MS implementation of
them.

The security problem of letting enclosures be posted to *any* mail list
needs no comment. Right?
