I think Scheel and others considered it a strain of
liberiensis. A very striking strain at that.
It seems to be another case of a commercial import (circa
1935) miss-labeled. Calabar is in SE Nigeria - a long ways from Liberia. ROTOW
in 1968 notes that it had survived W.W.II and 40 years in the hobby. It was
still around some years ago in the USA. I don't know if it still is kept. As a
newbie I was thunderstruck by it and too shy to bid on it. Cherish it if
you find it.
