My observations pretty much mirror Martin's
observations concerning the South American annual
killies. I would also add that whitei and constanciae
at 48 to 52 degrres F loose their swim bladder control
and cannot orient themselves in the water. They just
roll erratically. If warmed quickly they recover and
act normally. Austrolebias bellottii and nigripinnis
I one winter kept in the low to mid 40's F with one
week dropping into the upper thirties. Spawning
stopped, but they did continue to feed and grow. Male
nigripinnis reached nearly three inches in length
while the bellottii reached nearly 4 inches. When the
temperature came back into the upper fifties and
above, spawning was nonstop.
