Re: Female C. whitei?
Hi Tammy!
You will find that there is a local killie group in you area. If you go to
the AKA site www.aka.org and link to affiliate clubs you and others
interested in local killie groups will often find groups surprisingly near
home. (Of course there are the Tom Keans, Brian Watters and upstate New
Yorkers that drive up to 8 hours one way to visit killie people too.)
The affiliate club page entry said:
Texas Area Killifish Organization
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at different members' homes.
Visitors are always welcome. Our membership reaches across Texas, Oklahoma,
and Louisiana (some members can only attend our annual show and auction in
July). Contact Ralph Havis at (281)438-2414 or Rik Post for more
information.
Their local link is down, but that info is a start. The link to Rik Post
seems to work. I'm sure that people in the Southwest are more used to
driving distances than those from the more densely populated east - and you
may have to be. :)
The members of TACO I've encountered are both nice people and gracious in
offering help. As you can see from their acronym, they also know when to
smile at some of our pretensions too.
If you can't find a lady for your whitei, I'm sure the good people who have
responded to this thread will be able to help in the spring.
As you are finding out, whitei can get pretty big. Whole finnage can be
breath-taking. Several years ago, just for the sake of mischief, a member of
the San Diego group (I think his initials are Richard Streiver) entered a
whitei male in a wild Betta class in the show of the local aquarist society.
You can imagine his amusement in taking first place.
All the best and Happy New Year!
