If you insist on getting rid of the gnats, I would collect the cleanest
worms, put them in water to clean them further and remove any gnat larvae.
With 20 to 50 clean worms, I would start a new culture going in known
sterile media. Knowing that you have a gnat problem, be particularly
careful to keep your cultures tightly covered.
Making up little cutures that are available to the gnats can work as
traps. Just microwave those traps every couple of days to kill the eggs and
larvae. Not much fun, but should work.
