Re: Maintaining shoe boxes of fry
When I first joined the AKA, I remember meeting Ed
Etzell who lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was at that
time raising 5 or 6 different species of killies. Ed
had 3 or 4 tanks as I remember, but he had killifish
in hundreds of drinking glasses, jars, etc. Anything
that would hold water. I remember how amazed I was to
see a three inch long male A. gardneri, who had spent
his entire life in an 8 ounce drinking glass except
for brief intervals in a gallon jar with a female or
two. This male was the largest gardneri I have ever
seen. Ed's secret was changing the water in all these
containers 100 every day. Small containers are not
harmful, they just need a lot of attention to keep
their inhabitants healthy.
