Rocket Panchax Woes

A couple of weeks after getting my first pair of Pseudepitplatys annulatus
the male apparently had a bad run-in with some FD tubifex that came in with
some other FD food I offered (their staple diet being frozen brineshrimp and
live daphnia). The female however was perfectly fine, a week after his
death I head back to the shop to pick up another pair thinking that a trio
will make a nice breeding set. The new beaux appears healthy and fine and
is showing some nice courting behavior (although I didnt expect the
antagonism between the two females). Unfortunately the day after, I return
home to find that he's developed something nasty, with a large hemmorage at
the base of his pectoral fin and swollen eye on the right side of the body.
A couple hours later he's dead, once again the females are just dandy.
Everything seemed fine in the morning. No idea why the females have no
problems. Bad luck with males? Tankmates include some small scheeli fry,
Norman Lampeye, Corydoras hastatus and Amano shrimp in a 15G planted tank.

Nitrates are barely measurable, pH at 6.7, 9-10 dH
I dont suppose they're parthenogenic eh? :(
