Re: Harvesting brine shrimp
I hatched out the Tibet eggs(from Brine Shrimp Direct) twice this week.
(two tablespoons of eggs each time) They take about 2 times as long to hatch
(40 to 48 hrs vs my 22 to 26 hrs for the "summit" brand" of premium eggs
sold by Brine shrimp direct). The stated yield is 75% and they appear to be
a little darker "orange" in color in a dense mass when they sink after they
hatch. The hatch for these is reasonable but quite a few unhatched eggs on
the bottom as compared to the Summit eggs I am now hatching (which had been
rated at 80 to 85% yield though). Until late Jan, Brine shrimp direct
Summit eggs(just got a couple of cans at the same order as the tibet eggs)
were marked 75% hatch same as the Tibet eggs so for a price of $37 vs $60 a
can(15 oz)is seems worth while if you have the patience to wait the 2 day
cycle. Best may be to wait till late Jan and see what the price/yield of
the new harvest turns out to be if you have enough eggs on stock to last
till then.
