At the risk of raising ire for injecting science again, the general rule is
that the more evenly all fish reproduce, the more likely genes are to be
kept given that there's a limit on how many fish we can keep. Maintaining
diversity and selecting on traits are to some large degree mutually
exclusive pursuits.
