RE: Species Maintenance

There are really no common killifish. When you think about the number of
zebrafish, neon tetras etc in the hobby there probably are no killifish
which even come close. Therefor I would like to suggest that you choose fish
based on those which you really like the most. You might want to choose
those which are particularly challinging. Or those which are exceptionally
rare in the wild. Possibly you might want to foster a new and rare species
into more general circulation.

I would like to finish with one last comment. If you take on a fish which
you do not really love you are going to lose interest eventually. Every fish
you do will need work on your part. If you champion an ugly duckling no one
else may want it. Remember, selling off your extras will help to support
your efforts.

Choose a fish, subjectivelely, which you believe is worthy of being saved in
the hobby.

Also consider which fish suit your lifestyle. If you travel extensively you
may want to do annuals which can be kept as eggs when you are away. If you
live in a very warm climate you might not want to do fish which need to be
kept cold. Consider also which food animals you want to raise. Certain
fish have certain nutritional requirements.

Dont be afraid to try various species. You will find that you will most
likely have a knack for some and others will always be troublesome to you.

I hope I have helped.

Let us know what you chose. I may want some from you somewhere down the
road!

Good Luck

I started with killifish in 1963 and have seen all of them almost disappear
over the years so just pick a couple of types and work with them .
