Re: Cameras

I cancelled my order for a Nikon 990, when I discovered what aberrations the
lens had. I ended up buying a Sony Cybershot Pro DSC-D770 and am quite
pleased with it.

It has a unique zoom system that eliminates need for a macro setting
completely. For a hand-held snapshot in the field, check out:

My apologies that they are slow downloading as Tom Webster needed the higher
resolution for the DSAC web site.

The next-closest camera in fish-pic capability was $5000 and *way* out of my
range.

3.3MP got heavily hyped as the "thing to have" but none of the
point-and-shoot cameras make really good pictures with them. Mostly lousy
optics, and far higher noise. Purple fringing from lateral chromatic
aberrations are only one of the *easy* problems to see. A friend of mine
does super pictures of planted tanks with a Nikon 950. The pictures in lower
light are *much* freer of noise than any 990, IMHO.

YMMV, but I love my Sony.

PS I'm an old non-automatic 35mm (and larger format) addict, so you P&S
types may hate that much manual capability.
