Hexamita and Metronidazol
Hi all
Hexamita is internal parasitic protozoa which is very common and serious
problem among Discus and treatment for it is feeding a Metronidazol
medicated food for five days. You can made the food by mixing 250mg of
Metronidazol with one ounce of paste food .
If the fish are not eating any more you can put Metronidazol in the water -
25mg per galon for three days. After three days you can change some water
(40%) and if fish are not better you can do the treatment again.
Metronidazol is not very toksic, so there is no big fear to overdose it.
Allso it kills only anaerobic bacteries, so it is not harmfull to filters
fauna.
Flagyl is brand name for human medicine with Metronidazol, but it is really
poorly soluble in the water. It is better to get pure metronidazol for
aquarian use.
I know Seachem have it and it is nicley soluble in the water.
With regards!
Ziga
