RE: Frustrated! black water

Hi Jorge
I will give it a go it's water that has leached tannins and other chemicals
the 3 types that I know about.

The one mother nature supplies by water running across forest floors and
slow flowing creeks with lots of leaf litter plus what ever else it picks up
along the way, I would like to have a couple of containers of this in my
shed. Has anyone ever had this analysed if so what does it contain?

The store bought stuff, for the price of a couple of bottles of this you
could set yourself up for life with homemade black water.

My home made stuff is a 20 litre bucket about a third full of peat the rest
water and I have a high pressure air pump from a protein skimmer turning it
over a Sheiago(spelling probably wrong). This set up has been running for
over 5 years and I just add more peat and water as each is used. When adding
it to your tanks you have to watch the pH as it is around 2.5-3 I mix it
with my change water and check the pH in the bucket never adding it directly
to the tank. Have no formula for adding it either, that looks about right is
the only method I have.

This method also sorts your peat out for you, the really fine peat forms a
ring around the top, nice size peat is on the move in the water and the
chunky stuff for conditioning water sits on the bottom

Have found for breeding some fish like it strong you can't even see them,
these are usually the ones that like it a bit hotter to breed. While others
are happier with just a light yellowing of the water, it's all trial and
error.
