a list of newbie questions

Hi killie nuts,

Dumb question time:

1) How do you tell if you female is ready to breed? The female AUS I'm
trying to get ready is stuffed to the gills with food. :) How will I know
when she's full of eggs and not worms and bbs?

2) I made a couple new mops and I noticed they were not colorfast after
boiling. If I wash them until the color stops bleeding can I use them?

3) I found a source of soft water. It's the same Ph as my tap. Can I just
mix it in as a water change (like 1/4)? How often can I add it in until the
hardness drops? 

4) Do you need to have a light on all the time to hatch shrimp? I don't like
leaving the light on when I'm not home and I can't see what difference it
would make to the eggs.
