Getting red colors among plants is a big goal for lots of planted aquarium
nuts.

High light (like yours) and proper nutrients seem to be the clue. Sometimes
it's a mystery, but I suspect micronutrients and their balance plays a
strong role.

I recently bought some very-hard-to-find Hygro (green). The "Sunset" pinkish
variety is still legal to ship in CA, but they stopped allowing the green to
be shipped. After a week or two in my tanks, guess what? It is developing
the classic "Sunset" vein pattern and colors. The store was in SF with very
pure water with almost no tds. Plants were rich green. My water is
moderately hard, and lots of iron and Tropica Mastergrow. Plants have pink
veins and look totally different in the lower, older parts.
