RE: Water tanks

Wright brings up a subject I have always wondered about. In the past I have
used ordinary
garden hoses to fill my outside ponds, only to kill all the fish. Learning
the hard way,
I bought hose that was rated for "potable" water, for campers, etc, and that
fixed the
problem. I have never had the same trouble with plastic storage trays or
Rubbermaid containers,
but the potential seems to be there, and most have no such rating as
the"food grade"
Wright was able to find.
I wonder if anyone has had unpleasant results with containers leaching toxic
chemicals into
the water.I use about two dozen Rubbermaid shoe containers for my killies,
so far with excellent
results, but I will admit to raising a few expendable guppy fry in one
before I trusted them
enough to use.

I went to Smart and Final, and found they had some big dark gray heavy-duty
ones that were less compact (round) but food grade and with nice stiff flat
lids. As I recall, they were about 40G, and not much more than what Kent
paid (version 2). About 2' across, and 28" tall, they have been a nice
secure way for me to store water. The slight closet rearrangement to
accomodate the larger footprint has been well worth it, IMHO.
