Re: Anyone have a George Maier Photo?

Bob, I don't know if this reply was directed to me,
Allen Johnson, or Allen McNeally.  There were two
George's both with similar sounding last name, but
with different spellings.  George Myers was an
ichthyologist who named many annual killifish from
South America.  The second George Maier operated a pet
shop located at 802 Belmont Avenue on the north side
of Chicago.  The photograph which I was referring to
was published in an aquarium magazine and that
photograph was of George Maier the same individual who
answer questions addressed to JAKA with Killie notes. 
I remember meeting him at his shop on Belmont Avenue
and we were taking about annual eggs and about a
recent shipment of mud that he had received from Gerda
MacPhail from Argentina from a bellottii pond.  He had
looked through the mud for killie eggs and could not
find any even with his microscope.  That prompted a
discussion about microscopes and he was going to give
a talk the next week to the Chicago microscope club. 
This club was not a club of practicing scientists, but
rather a group of individuals who were interested in
nature and the small things that could be seen with a
microscope.  That was why the article I saw with
George and his microscope made such a lasting
impression on me.
