Hi Kristin,
You are not being annoying. Questions like yours are why this
Killietalk list is here. Don't be intimidated by all these chemistry
experts! They have just been at this a lot longer than us. Here is one
suggestion for changing water. Get a powerhead or a small fountain pump and
some tubing or hose of the right size for it as well as a plastic garbage
can. Fountain pumps you can get at a craft store, the tubing at Home Depot,
and the trash can is probably cheapest at Wal-Mart. You might need two
trash cans, one for dirty water and one for clean.
When you siphon your tanks dump the water into the trash can. When
it is full, you use the powerhead or fountain pump to pump the water through
the hose to a utility sink, or out the window. The old water is great for
plants. You can also use a faucet adapter to run clean water into a trash
can where you can treat it all at once. Then you can use the pump to run
the water to the tanks, or you can use a pitcher to fill tanks from the
trash can. This would save a lot of running back and forth carrying heavy
buckets of water.
