BOUNCE killietalk at aka_org: Non-member submission from ["Ryan Deal" <ryand at mitekcorp_com>]

Hello Everyone,

The only downside of fishkeeping for me is the water changes. I am =
curious to learn of easy ways of changing water, so that it will be =
easier and I can do it more often.
The way I am doing it now is very labor intensive. First I take a 5 =
gallon bucket and a siphon tube with the gravel cleaner thing on the =
end, I then siphon out 20-30 % of the water. I then have to carry the =
heavy bucket outside and dump it on the garden. Next I take the five =
gallon bucket and add RO water and tap water to get a hardness of about =
50 PPM. As you can see I am only working in increments of 5 gallons so =
when I do my water changes on some of my larger tanks it takes a lot of =
time.    =20
I know that someone out there has to have an easier way.=20
I am thinking about using a 30 foot hose with a water pump to drain =
the tank. Then I could have a big 75 gallon plastic cattle trough with =
mixed RO and tap water that I could run another 30 foot hose and pump =
from to fill the tanks. But I think that this would get water everywhere =
( unless I had shut off valves in certain locations).
Please let me know what you are currently using and what you think =
of my idea. I would like to solve this because I think that the more =
water changes I do the happier my fish will be.

Thanks in advance for all replies,
Ryan
