RE: Hard times . . . Anyone want to trade?
Hi Grant
A bit of a yarn about my SJO adventure.
I purchased my first 2 pairs about this time last year German imports I
managed to nurse them back to health so they could suddenly die. Then I was
given a local pair that were not far off of breeding age, I also purchased
another 2 pairs of German imports.
>From January they have all been of breeding age and laying eggs. Since that
time I have not eat or slept properly and my beard and hair have turned
grey( I'm only 33 ). Have tried everything but not one single fertile egg I
even asked some of the Gularis gurus for advise. Mean time the German fish
died again( white worms can eat a whole fish in a day if their breeding in
your sponge filter and you don't know it).
With only one pair left and a pair entered in a show that lasted 2
eeks( LIN gold won champion tropical fish SJO hid weren't judged ) I thought
I better give them a couple of weeks of luxury so I set up a 4 foot tank
just for them with gravel from the creek down the road. The gravel had lots
of clay in it and after one of the water changes I must of left some the
clay slurry in the bottom of the bucket because when I went to do a water
change last night there was about a half inch of dried clay in the bottom
didn't think nothing of it. Just went out to turn on the lights and give the
fish a feed also to pour last nights water on the garden. And I found 10 fry
in the bucket with the clay in it. My SJO curse is over.
