Re: GALVINIZED WATER PIPES
Hello Paul,
Galvanized pipes, containers, etc. often CAN present a problem, as do
copper pipes in acidic water areas. When water STANDS in them for a
while, some of the heavy metals dissolve and present a problem. The
longer the water stands in the pipe -- the greater the dissolution.
The general remedy, that works also for garden hoses, is to let water
standing in the pipes drain. Water that just flows through does not have
time to pick up the heavy metals.
If you want to be 100% certain that the water will not stress your fish
due to heavy metal content, calculate the volume of water that stands in
the pipes and drain that volume before taking water for your fish.
Best,
George
