Regarding cork for mops -
    Why not just ask your wine-drinking friends (assuming you have some) to
save their wine corks for you? I've been using second-hand wine corks for
mop floats for years, and find they work quite well. Occasionally one does
deteriorate and have to be replaced, but 1) they're free, 2) they're in
almost unlimited supply, and 3) it's such fun emptying out the bottles in
the first place!
    Besides, the fish don't seem to mind where the corks come from, as long
as the mops float.
