I have a large number of small (1 -  5 gal) tanks which have no filtration.  
I have both mop spawners and peat divers in such tanks with no trouble.  I do 
a complete water change on each tank every week.  I do find that my harvest 
of eggs is highest during the 48 hours after the water change.
