RE: water changes
In tanks with UG filters, I install an extra airlift tube extending above
the water surface and siphon through that.

Even simpler.......go to your LFS get the
Aqua-clear 150 sponge filter, cut an X in
the middle of the long side 2/3 of the way
through slip it into the sponge ( I keep a
hard plastic tube about 12 " long in the end of the flexible siphon )
then you can siphon with out a care . Look Ma
one hand !!! Works for me and in all tanks
including those that do not have sponge
