re: Hard water killies

I'm going to bet a dollar that someone has answered this already and I
missed it, but, here goes: Where does one procure a Hanna TDS meter these
days? Thanks!

Subject: re: Hard water killies

For years, I have wondered how "hard" my water was. Thanks to a Hanna TDS
meter, I now have an idea. My tap water registers about 570 (+or-). Tank
water is usually "harder" due to replacing evaporation (650-770 TDS). I
have bred all sorts of killies in this water - from "softwater" species such
as Australe to "hardwater" types such as Lebias (Aphanius) mento. Many
species will adapt to your water, but not all. Most South American annuals
don't seem to like my water and don't live very long. I suggest you try
what interests you and see what happens. If you have no success in breeding
a species after a year or more, trade it for another species.
