Re: lampeye question again

Tyrone,
I may be wasting bandwith here, but I'll try. I have to guess based upon
other lampeyes, as I've never even had the pleasure of seeing your
species. I find lampeye eggs large. I used to breed Celebes rainbows,
and I don't recall the eggs being as large as those of my Guinean and
Nigerian lampeyes. The eggs do seem disproportionate to the size of the
fish.
I find incubation can be hard to pin down with lampeyes. It has always
varied here, even from egg to egg collected the same day. Mine usually
start hatching at 7-9 days, and run up to 12. My Canadian fishroom has
its seasons, running from 18 in winter to 25 this summer, but the
seasons don't seem that important to the incubation times.
My luxopthalmus and normanni had different growth rates, although here I
suspect temperature. The Nigerian fish are growing slowly, while my
Guinean normani have a tendency to start slowly, then grow faster than
the average Aphyosemion, after about a month. However, the normani breed
at 20C, and the luxopthalmus haven't done that for me.
I have also had normani I considered immature spawn generously in their
grow out tanks, when they were only 1.5 cm in length.
Foodwise, I've used microworms, bbs, decapsulated etc - the standards,
but I also spawn my fish in what I call java moss, but which is really
java moss overrun by huge algae clumps, and I think that's where the
food to get them to bbs comes from.
As a tip, the lampeyes I've raised have had small fry, but the Celebes
rainbows were a touch smaller. That's relative though.
Hope that's useful.
