This might be a good thing for me to follow up on. I work at the airport,
as an USDA Inspector. I work with the X-Ray machines all day. I might be
able to do some scientific work. Perhaps I could get a batch of eggs on
peat, split the batch, expose one bag to X-Rays and one keep under ambient
conditions. Check hatch numbers rates, etc. And later look at
fertility/fecunditiy of the resulting fry. Anyone got a good batch of eggs
of something that has large easily counted eggs that take little time to
hatch ;-). I should be able to try this with the A. ogoense populations I
have and collect the eggs and place them onto moist peat, bag them and see
what happens. Note that different agencys use different x-ray systems and
there may be other effects. Security uses a machine that is more like a
MRI and it does crap out film and might do more damage to other things...
I think the bigger problem is that the US Customs service is
looking for drugs and will delay fish and eggs if the parcel looks like it
might be a drug package. I am sure they X-Ray it big time and sift through
it and squash everything in the process.
