Re: Tank divider

One of the great fish breeder in the Michiana area uses the cross stitch plastic in all of his tanks as hiding places for the females. Curls them up and makes caves. Throw a few of these caves in there, a few spawning mops and a few plants. You won't ever see the fish, but the female will not get beat up either...bob

/*I have had good results with plastic stitchery canvas dividers in 10G
tanks. *snip* (or a clear sheet of acrylic)
much easier*/

Very interesting. I was thinking glass dividers (cheap, as well), but then
you have water circulation problems. I used the plastic tank dividers you
get at the store, but they don't exactly lay flush with the glass, allowing
fry and sometimes adult fish passage between compartments. Not good.
However, I don't see why they wouldn't work well if I siliconed them in like
yours.. I think I've still got a few laying around.. I was actually playing
with this idea today in my head, but in a different context. Basically, box
one corner off with silicone and mesh material, with a powerhead/filter in
the corner, pumping water out of the tank into a filter system... That's
another story...

/*BTW, acrylic is poor for tank covers, as it swells when wet and bends.*/

Tell me about it. I had to service a lot of acrylic tanks in LA, and the
manufacturer used thin acrylic sheets as covers.. Talk about bendage. No
*way* I'd use them to cover a killie or other jump-happy fish tank.
