The waccamaw killifish is almost identical to fundulus diaphnous . if you
find info on diaphanous, just switch names, that will give you a good Idea
on what it is. The reason ( of suspect anyways) is it was diaphanous, but
divergent from them for so long that they are a full species. What differs
I am not sure though. Diaphanous are a " bottom dwelling killi" non typical
to most North American species ( topminnows), and prefer sandy beach like
areas. They form schools over sandy areas, and if like diaphonous in
spawning, will deposit their eggs in sand as well as on plants on the
bottom. I would also check to be sure it is not a protected species, since
it is limited in range before collecting.
