Hardy fish
My vote for hardiest killie I've kept so far has to be the R. weberi, raised
by Lowell Patrick, that I obtained at a club auction three weeks ago. A day
after getting the pair in a 2.5 gal. tank on the top shelf of the rack (~6'),
one of the two (not sure which is which yet) pulled a "houdini dive" (I built
those tanks and there's no way it escaped at a lid gap!) and landed on the
basement floor. I was feeding bbs and resetting the hatchery when I noticed a
relatively dry flop out of the corner of my eye. The fish was dry enough to
have picked up a dust ball or two and I had no problem picking it up with my
fingers. It wiggled enough to encourage me to dump it back into the tank.
Long story shortened is that, upon returning from a week's vacation, it's
healthy, eating well and is as skittish as ever. Must be those blackworms,
huh, Lowell?
