Yes. At least the bacterial dopsy. At the local pet store there was
shipment of rummy nose tetras that looked like little flaked balloons.
We lost a couple but by the end of the 3 day course the disease
was gone.

Dropsy can also be caused by kidney failure or stress. If it is due
to failure then the fish is doomed. Kidney stress can be dealt with
by increasing the salinity and see what happens.

I had a large siamese fighter that had dropsy. The first time I was
able to cure him by keeping him in a saline solution for a week. He
was fine for some months before he contracted it again. This time
he never made it back. Clearly this was a case of kidney problems
combined with an old fish.
Any one who has had kribs will also attest to their susceptibility to
dropsy and pop-eye. Often it will just disappear after a water
change. More often than not the male will die regardless of
treatment.

Back to the case of the rummy nose tetra: they were definitely
cured and the root of the disease was bacterial scepticemia. There
are a number of products that claim to treat this. The only one I
have used with success is the AZOO anti bacterial tabs.

hope this sheds some light.
