Re: AKA Convention Fish Wright Huntley
Thanks for the kind words re: the show fish in Tampa. The major part of the
excellent care can be attributed to Bill Shields (a professional fish breeder
in a commercial fish farm) and Brian Skidmore. They really did the lion's
share of the work and monitored the benching of fish very carefully and it
paid off. I honestly believe there were fewer stressed fish than I have ever
witnessed at a show. It really pays to obtain good quality water, but
naturally the fish have to be handled gently. I might add the fish in this
show were excellent and the auction prices confirm my opinion.
Joe Scanlan has lots of the Cyprinodon dearborni, but no e-mail. You will be
forced to write a letter or call, Wright. Good to hear you "weakened" and
added A./C to your fish room. Cool water is essential for A. jorgenscheeli
and all the diapterons as well so get busy. By the way, we have no basements
in Florida which presents a challenge to we killifish keepers. They are
usually relegated to the garage which are neither heated nor furnished with
air. Several of our local members suffered disastrous losses -- usually from
excessive heat and "all" have no added A/C to their garages with much better
results. It takes a long time for some of us, but we must consider our fish's
needs if we wish to succeed in cultivating them. Have fun. Wright. I'll bet
you spend more time in your fish room now that it is nice and cool during the
summer heat.
