RE: Moving to Blenders
Well, yes, sort of. I mix 4 heaping tablespoons into 4 cups of water and
then blend on high (see previous message). Fill up empty space in pop
bottle with straight tap water. Shake and refrigerate. You will see when
you take it out of the frig that even though you blended the dickens out of
it, stuff still settles to the bottom. This will happen in your culture, so
the trick is don't overfeed. Easier said than done. Use a medicine dropper
to feed the food so you will not be heavy handed and overfeed. Feed just
enough to cloud the surface of the culture. The water should be very clear
before you feed again. Daphnia are sensitive to over feeding. Better to
feed a small amount in the AM and a small amount in the PM until you get the
hang of it. Another advantage of premixing a 2 liter amount is, for me
anyway, any excess I pour back in the bottle for later use. When I made my
mix up daily, for some unexplainable reason, I felt it necessary to feed all
that I had mixed. :(
