RE: 'bout idiot questions...
One of our local killie keepers used to throw a bag of spawn of 6 different Cynolebias into his pond every spring. In the fall he would net out all the fish and put them in a 55. He would then painstakingly separate them into pairs. He said that males of one species will go after females of their own species mainly. He would just follow the male to the appropriate female. Could you put your Notho males in with the females and see what happens..??...bob

You are most probably out of luck with distinguishing Notho females. But
you can try this method: Place a male of each species in two separate very
small clear containers. Place each female one by one in a third separate
clear container. Using a strong magnifying lens see if you can see
similarities and/or differences in the fins of the male and the female,
particularly the dorsal and anal fins. As I stated, this is a long shot.
Most Notho females are tough to distinguish because they tend to be
colorless.
