Re: killi fry questions

Michael, you wanted to know about raising fry. I am probably the laziest or busiest but here is my method.

All of the fry in the petri dish were collected the same day and should hatch about the same time. Once I see one fry hatch I put it in a place where I can remember to check on it. After about ½ of the fry have hatched, I try to force hatch the remainder. I do this by swirling the dish or sucking up the eggs with a pipette..

I then dump the petri dish in a one gallon container. I add about 1/4 gallon of greenwater and some java moss. If I think about it I will add some food once a day. I also keep adding some greenwater whenever I think about it. Usually a 1/4 gallon a day. After a few days the jar is full. I then drain down about 90% of the water and start adding water again each day. A few daphnia are helpful also.

After about two weeks I move the fish to a plastic shoebox and keep adding greenwater. I also add a bunch of snails at this point. I start culling at this point. It is easy to cull for size and shape in a shoebox.

After another two weeks I move the fish to a tank and start feeding heavily.

To recap. Greenwater between feedings, frequent water changes, cull mercilessly.

good luck..bob
