Re: Question about Diapterons
I'm new to Diaps so maybe someone else can reply. But I had a trio in a heavily planted tank in a sunny window for six months. The fish were beautiful, but no eggs. Finally, I needed the space and moved the fish to the floor in the basement. Dark and cold. About a week later I went to feed them and check on them. There were several eggs in the tank. I have collected eggs everyday since then. I don't think it was the temperature, but the move to darkness that triggered the breeding. I also spoke with someone last week and he said Diapterons need changes in temp to trigger spawning. They need to be kept cold for a while and then warmed up.. Much like native killies. Who knows...but they sure are pretty fish....bob
