Re: Sick Fish

Sandy, I don't like to use anything but salt. I would lower the temp in the tank to upper 60s or lower 70s, add one teaspoon of salt per gallon each day for three days, getting you to a total of 3 teaspoons of salt per gallon. Water quality is important. Your fish could have a form of fish tuberculosis (can't afford the cure), a bacteria problem (salt and water changes should help), parasites (not likely if the mail is not stressing out), or intestinal blockage problems (live food will help).

I would also suggest moving the sick fish to a quarantine tank away from the male. She doesn't need the stress of having to deal with him.

I think your fish will probably die. That is why we raise up spares. I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Best Wishes...bob
