Re:F.Cinnamomeum

Just a different idea for you to try with your Cinnamomeum. With many of the
Paraphyosemion species(thats the group which includes
Cinn.,Mirabile,Puerzli,Spoorenbergi,Ndianum,and Gardneri.),it is easier to
achieve a successful hatching if you rest the eggs on wet peat for the
incubation period. There are several reasons to use this method .The first
is to prevent infertile fungusing eggs from destroying the whole batch of
eggs. For this reason ,I use this method for F. Mirabile sps. I get a better
hatch than I get when I water incubate. Another reason to use the peat
resting incubation ,is that many times the eggs are more ready to hatch at
the end of the incubation period.Years ago when I was working with Cinn.,I
had a very difficult time getting them to hatch. The eggs were eyed up but no
matter what method of force hatching I tryed including putting the eggs in a
vial of water and putting them in my pocket while I played a game of
Basketball seemed to work.(Shaking and stirring to the max) When I rested
the eggs on peat,at the hatching time I took the container with the eggs on
peat and dunked them in a plastic bed pan and rinsed the entire contents into
the plastic container( any large plastic cont.will work)within a couple of
days I had fry. The peat preparation is easy, take soaked peat and
squeeze out some of the water. I dont squeeze out as much as I do when Im
putting away annual eggs, the peat is wet ,but with out pools of water in the
peat. Then I place the peat in a covered container(margerine containers or if
you get those cont. from the grocery store with poppers or nuggets in
them, black bottom with a clear top),you need the cover to hold in the
moisture, then pick the eggs as usual. Instead of putting them in water(water
incubation),place the eggs on the top of the wet peat, keep each egg on a
seperate section of the peat so if one has fungused if wont spread to the
other eggs. Dunk the whole cont.in the larger cont. emptying the contents and
then watch for fry. Iprefer to add an airline or airstone to the cont.,and I
look for fry for a couple of weeks.Eggs hatch when they are ready ,not by the
times in a book.If you are looking for fry and nothing has hatched in a
week, change some water so that the ph doesnt slide.Remove any fry that you
find with a turkey baister to a cont. with water from the same tank and feed
as usual. This method works better for me,give it a try. Kurt E.
